Most students struggle with money whilst at college and university and it can be a real challenge just to buy the basic food and study material that you need. The student loan doesn’t tend to go far to help towards all expenses and if your family are not in a financial position to be able to help you out then you would need to seek part time employment to supplement your loan.
The most common sorts of employment tends to be weekend work or evening work at either supermarkets or bars that can easily be fitted in around study periods.
It’s important to be realistic when taking on a job about how many shifts you can do without it effecting your studies as you’ll need to get a balance of earning what you can but also having time to relax and time for socialising.
Employers won’t be tolerant if shifts are missed or work is not up to standard because you have taken on too much, it’s better to start with a few shifts and increase the work if you are coping ok.
