Extrinsic job satisfaction

Job satisfaction is vital in getting the most out of employees and keeping them within your business. There are many factors that affect a person’s job satisfaction and these are often split in to intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic include factors such as the tasks they are responsible for, and the kind of work that they need to do. Extrinsic relates to the workers conditions such as rates of pay, holidays, co-workers and management etc.

As an employer you can have a massive impact on an employee’s extrinsic job satisfaction and this should be discussed in regular review meetings. If you can set your employee goals and offer them rewards when they meet those goals you can often improve satisfaction within the work place as the employee will feel valued and have something to work towards. Offering pay rises to those that deserve them and giving them adequate breaks along with support and advice are all essential to improving an employee’s satisfaction within their job role.
